It’s hard to believe that six years have passed since Lady Gaga made her Venice International Film Festival debut in her first theatrical appearance in Bradley Cooper’s 2018 remake of A Star Is Born. Fulfilling the title of the film, the multi-hyphenated made movie history by closing down the red carpet in front of the Palazzo del Cinema in a feathered Valentino Couture gown. Even a brief shower literally didn’t rain on her parade as Gaga earned a ten-minute standing ovation—a triumph by premiere standards.
For the 81st edition of the glamorous event, sartorialists and cinephiles alike are keeping their fingers crossed that history will repeat itself. On September 4, Todd Phillips will preview the highly-anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, to the world. With Gaga co-staring across from Joaquin Phoenix as his equally deranged love interest, the event will be the first instance she displays her approach to sartorially rivalling the comic book villain.
However, it was the travel outfit she wore from the gates of Marco Polo airport to the tier of Hotel Cipriani, that hinted at her style methodology.

In lieu of Harley Quinn’s argyle diamonds or two-toned uniform, Gaga has embraced the Old Hollywood energy of the setting in classic silhouettes and timeless prints. For her first look, the 38-year-old wore a modish-style custom mini dress from L.A. Roxx. The 60s-inspired piece featured a black-and-white polka dot print and long bell sleeves. Gaga and Phoenix can be seen in 70s costumes as part of a dream-like variety show segment in the trailer for Joker 2, making this look a very subtle form of method dressing. She later changed into a blood-red Ferragamo dress, continuing her homage to her fictional counterpart.
She was also joined by her fiancé Michael Polansky. Speaking of diamonds, however, Gaga embraced her character’s signature motif in the form of her stunning engagement ring. The piece of jewellery is a stunning oval-cut diamond estimated to be worth upwards of a million dollars.

As we continue to update you on Gaga’s fashion moments from the Venice Film Festival, keep an eye out for more sightings of the beautiful ring. In the meantime, watch the trailer for the film below:
