Kourtney Kardashian came under fire this week when on the 2022 Met Gala red carpet, the reality star admitted she hadn’t “really thought” about the theme ‘Gilded Glamour’.  She attended the lauded event alongside Travis Barker in accompanying Thom Browne looks. Following the evening, Kardashian has since clarified the inspiration behind the two ensembles and it’s actually a really special story.

Alongside images of the fitting process, the 43-year-old revealed that it was the designer’s first time dressing a couple. “When I heard that Travis and I were the first couple you had dressed, how important it was to you that our story be told, for us to be an extension of each other, it meant so much to us,” Kardashian wrote in a caption on Instagram.

“I love how I was the deconstructed version of his perfectly polished look,” she continued. “I had all of the elements from his look draped all over me. His pleated skirt, jacket and suit pants were dripping from my skirt.”

The namesake American designer also dressed the likes of Maisie Williams in a black-and-white pleated gown, Lizzo (who subsequently played the flute on the red carpet) in a corset dress and baroque cape and Oscar Isaac in a tailored dress. Our favourite however had to be Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in a floor-length tailcoat with orchids and laurel leaves embroidery in gold bullion.

Browne was widely celebrated after former first lady Michelle Obama wore one of his designs to the 2013 presidential inauguration. He has since become known for challenging the societal norms of tailoring and uniform dressing.
