On Sunday it was announced that French couturier and legendary designer Manfred Thierry Mugler had passed away, aged 73. The visionary stood at the helm of his namesake fashion house for over two decades before retiring in 2003. Perhaps most famously, he came out of retirement in 2019 to dress Kim Kardashian in a beaded “wet look” dress for the 2019 Met Gala, Camp: Notes on Fashion.

The dynamic duo worked together many times during Kardashian’s meteoric rise to stardom. Following the death of Mugler this week, Kardashian posted a lengthy tribute to social media which was accompanied by a rolodex of behind-the-scenes photographs of the pair.

“My heart breaks,” Kardashian wrote to Instagram. “There’s no one like you! Your vision, your transformations, your magic! I am so honored to have known you, spent time with you and be a muse for you. There was so much more for you to show the world and that we had planned to do together, but you already gave us so much.”

She continued, “I will never forget our time together around the world and learning from the master himself on what couture really meant! You always said beauty will save the world – and you really believed it was a better place because of the beauty all around!”

Other celebrities to have honoured Mugler on social media this week include Diana Ross, Beyoncé and Irina Shayk. Ross posted an old photo of the pair on Twitter and wrote, “I will miss you Thierry Mugler this was a wonderful time in our lives.”

The Russian model who has also been dressed in archival Mugler called the designer a “God of Fashion”. On Beyoncés own website, the pop star shared a homepage takeover in memory of the couturier.
