Flashback: It was the talk of the town. Kim Kardashian arriving at the 2019 Met Gala with a waist so small it seemed all but believable. Indeed, many quickly called out Kardashian for photoshopping herself, accusing the reality star of cinching her waist to proportions impossible for human kind.

But after Vogue US aired a video of her final fitting, it appeared that Kardashian shockingly tiny waist was real after all. Or rather, real with a little help from Thierry Mugler’s super-cinching corsetry.

At the time, her trainer, Melissa Alcantara, validated her client’s tiny waist on Instagram with some concise dot points. “To make things clear 1. This dress is corseted, but 2. Kim trains her a** off 6 days a f***ing week, she wakes up early AF and is dedicated,” began Alcantara. “3. I paved the road for her but she did the work! Most importantly, I don’t give a s**t about your opinions on her body, if you think she fake or not! I see her every morning, I see her train and I see her sweat and I see all the work she does outside the gym and that is commendable! [sic]”

In 2020, this infamous Met Gala saga resurfaced with an all-new backstory.

Last year, Kardashian “found” an old video on her phone of herself posing in a mirror (of course) in a corset. “Just found this in my phone from my special trip to London last year to meet w Mr. Pearl,” she wrote on Instagram, as she zoomed in on her inconceivably small doll-like waist. “I wore a corset like this for the Met Ball for my @manfredthierrymugler Camp look but the corset was misplaced that night 🤦🏻‍♀️ and I want it so badly preserved for my archive that I flew to London to have another made for the archive. We also might have started making a few more looks including my special 40th bday look. Can’t wait to show you the LOOKSSSS we’ve been cooking up.”

Concerned fans quickly flooded the post. “Can u breathe,” one asked, while others accused her of having her ribs removed: “Ribs removed?” And then some were just blatantly terrified: “I’m scared.”

With the kind of uber-exaggerated hourglass shape of cartoon characters and video game pin-ups, their concerns are warranted. While Kardashian denies any accusations of rib removal, the video sent minds boggling.
