Kim Kardashian seemingly somehow manages to juggle it all: raising four children, juggling successful businesses, starring on a reality TV show and studying law, all while being one of the most famous women in the world with people watching her every move. Not to mention picking clothes for non-stop red-carpet events and navigating the world of dating.

Of course, being ludicrously rich helps a lot here: Kardashian is afforded the luxury of professional help, both with nannies for her children, assistants for her schedule and even chefs for the cooking.

But if you think that means she’s totally hands-off when it comes to raising kids North, 9, Saint, 7, Psalm, 5, Chicago, 4, who she shares with her ex-husband Kanye West, you’d be wrong.

While appearing as a guest on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Kardashian opened up about being a mother, saying, “parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself.”

“It has been the most challenging thing,” she continued. “There are nights I cry myself to sleep. Like, holy shit, this fucking tornado in my house. Like, what just happened?”

Kardashian explained sometimes it feels like everything everywhere all at once: “Everyone says the days are long and the years are short, and that couldn’t be like a more true statement. When you’re in it, I mean, especially when they’re babies and you’re feeding, there’s madness going on. It’s like full madness. It’s the best chaos though.”

“It’s like I always have to do one of my daughter’s hair, and it has to be perfect, and it has to be a certain way, and then this one needs me to put his shoes on and they all need you,” she added. “It’s like full crazy madness, cooking, running around. Like, it’s wild.”

Kardashian went on to say that she’s trying to be “a little bit firmer” with her parenting style, adding that “parenting is really fucking hard.”

“You know, with all the moods and the personalities and sometimes they’re fighting, and you know, there’s no one there. Like, it’s me to play good police officer and bad cop.”

“That’s the only way I can describe it,” she noted. “It is the most rewarding job in the entire world. It is. There is nothing that can prepare you. I don’t care how long you wait. I don’t care what you’re waiting for. You are never prepared.”

In another clip from the interview, Kardashian revealed that every year on their birthday, she writes her children a “four or five-page” letter about the year that has past: who their friends are, the “silly words” they’re saying, their favourite foods, and what’s happened in their lives. “I know that they’ll appreciate this and everything that they might’ve thought I was being a little harsh on. I know that they’ll get it,” she said.
