Following the announcement of the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, it was devastating to learn that Kim Cattrall would not reprise her role as the fabulous Samantha Jones. It was largely believed to be in response to a nasty fallout with Sarah Jessica Parker. Nonetheless the internet had a better, more obscure theory that all started with a Star Trek fan account.
Bear with us.
NASA announced on Twitter that it would fly a ‘manikin’ to the moon for the Atermis I mission. A Star Trek fan account retweeted the post and wrote, “Breaking news! @KimCattrall has been chosen to fly aboard @NASA’s #Artemis I mission which flies around the moon later this year. Congrats Kim, wishing you good vibrations!”
The connection reportedly comes as Cattrall starred as Emmy in the 1987 film, Mannequin and as Valeris in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
Cattrall being the good sport she is replied to the tweet with a selfie dressed in a NASA space suit. Naturally the internet nearly broke with several followers noting the trip must be her reason for skipping out on the SATC reboot.
“The lengths she’ll go to avoid being in the new Sex And The City,” wrote one user.

The digital banter didn’t stop there. Following the Cattrall’s social media quip, even NASA joined the conversation and replied, “That’s one giant leap for manne-kind.” On Instagram, Cattrall reposted the image with a subtle dig to the SATC controversy.
“Thanks @nasa …I’m free..,” she wrote to her 847,000 followers.
Online publication, slate.com was one of the first outlets to pick up on the viral moment. Naturally it was reported on and Cattrall reposted the article with one final nod to the television series. “Cosmo(politan)naut…,” she captioned it.
While it all might be just a rumour, flying to the moon to avoid the series really is a classic Samantha mood. And we’ll indulge in it just a little longer.
In the lead up to the anticipated reboot series, it has been reported that three new characters will join Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte’s (Kristen Davis) inner circle. Because it’s no easy feat replacing Cattrall with just one person.
