With more than 68 million followers, Kendall Jenner was one of Instagram’s most popular users – until she suddenly shut down her account this week.
The model and social media star didn’t give fans any warning before she deactivated her page, but she’s finally explained the reasoning behind her decision: a digital detox.
“I just wanted a little bit of a break,” she said on The Ellen Show on Wednesday.
“I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed and it was the last thing that I would look at,” she said. “I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kinda wanted to take a minute. It’s a detox. I’ll be back.”
The 21-year-old said going cold-turkey on her feed has been just what she needed, and suggests we should all do the same.
“It’s really nice … I’m away from my phone so much more. You start to engage in real life and how you have to deal with real people right in front of you, so it’s kind of really nice to be away from it even if it’s just Instagram.”
She didn’t say when she might return, and with Kim Kardashian’s social media hiatus stretching into its sixth week, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath.
