She owes much of her success to social media and the millions of millennials she reaches on it, so Kendall Jenner’s decision to quit Instagram has come as a shock.

But that’s exactly what happened on Monday when fans tried to visit @kendalljenner only to be told “Sorry, this page isn’t available”. The model didn’t give any warning or explanation as to why she shut down her account, although recent events could be to blame.

The comments section of Kendall’s Instagram posts have been filled with angry comments following the criticism of the 21-year-old’s Vogue Spain photoshoot in which she dressed and posed as a ballerina (professional dancers found it offensive). Another reason could be that Jenner’s alleged stalker, who was only charged with trespassing for following her up her driveway in August, was released from prison last week. She has a five-year restraining order against him, but the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star might be taking extra precautions to protect her privacy.

She may also just be sick of it. Kendall hasn’t made a secret of her complicated relationship with social media. In a recent interview with Allure magazine, she expressed her frustration at people who are preoccupied by their phones.

“I find it offensive if you’re with someone at a dinner and they’re just sitting on their phone the whole time. I take that personally. Like, am I not interesting enough for you to talk to me? It’s so crazy because even though we talk about trying to be present, everyone wants to be in the future now.

“I definitely have close friends, and even some family members, who are so connected to their phone and can’t get off of it.”

She could also be inspired by sister Kim Kardashian, who is into her sixth week of a digital detox after being robbed in Paris and abruptly pulling back from public life.

Whether it’s one or all of the above, Kendall has checked out of checking-in for now.
