Thanks to her leading roles in Titanic and The Holiday, Kate Winslet is one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood. Her 20-year-old daughter, Mia Threapleton, however, has entered the industry completely under-the-radar with no one recognising the new star – including casting agents. Speaking with television host Lorraine Kelly, Winslet revealed her daughter was in the Czech Republic working on a television series.
“That’s been a wonderful thing that I think I knew was coming,” Winslet told Kelly. “I think I always suspected. And then sure enough, a couple years ago, she turned around and said, ‘I think I would like to give it a go.'”
“What’s been really great for her is that she has a different surname so that initial job out of the gate, she slipped right under the radar,” added Winslet. “The people who cast her had absolutely no idea that she was my daughter. And of course, that was my biggest fear and most important for her self esteem.”
According to IMDb, Threapleton appeared in her mother’s film A Little Chaos in 2014 as well as 2020 film, Shadows. Speaking to Variety on the aforementioned film, the 20-year-old reflected on growing up around her mother’s film sets.
“I never actually spent much time around sets that my mum was working on,” she told the outlet. “It was always a special treat. It’s a very different experience when it is happening to you, and not just something I was getting to observe from time to time. I really understand why my mum has always impressed on us how hard the work is. She is right! And I loved every second of it.”
Now it’s common knowledge, we can’t wait to see what Threapleton does next.
As for Winslet, she will appear in the new HBO miniseries Mare of Easttown where she will play a detective in small-town Pennsylvania. The first episode was released overnight and has already been praised with five stars. The official synopsis reads: “A detective from Pennsylvania tries her best to prevent her life from falling apart while investigating a mysterious murder.”
