Kate Middleton has become well-known for wearing jewellery with special significance. At the weekend the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed attending the annual Commonwealth Day ceremony at Westminster Abbey with the Royal family. She wore a royal blue Catherine Walker coat, a matching fascinator and grey pumps.
Her look of course was inspired by the colours of the Commonwealth flag while her jewellery – sapphire and diamond drop-earrings and necklace – paid homage to Ukraine. On Twitter, one eagle-eyed user noticed it was the same jewellery she wore to meet the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, in 2020. It comes after Middleton attended a Ukrainian cultural centre in London last week wearing a Ukraine flag pin.
As awards season continues in Hollywood, many stars have quietly supported the war-torn country. Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose from West Side Story attended the BAFTAs this week in a blue and yellow gown respectively, and together was reminiscent of the Ukrainian flag. Millie Bobby Brown’s new boyfriend Jake Bongiovi was also photographed wearing a pin of the Ukraine flag.
With donations flooding in to organisations to support the country, people around the globe have also started booking Airbnb accommodation in the city – with no intention of staying – to help send funds directly to citizens. By March 6, 61,406 nights were booked in 48 hours for properties in Ukraine. Those bookings alone are expected to sent $1.9 million USD to the country.
Middleton often revisits her no doubt, extensive jewellery collection. At Prince Phillip’s funeral in 2021, she wore a gorgeous pearl necklace which she had first worn at Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th wedding anniversary dinner in 2017. Just last week, the 40-year-old also paid homage to Princess Diana in the same look she wore at a rugby match many years prior.
