Kate Beckinsale just won ‘best dressed’ at Leonardo DiCaprio‘s star-studded 49th birthday bash, obliterating the competition with an iconic cinematic reference.

For the glamorous occasion, the actress showed up to the party in a traffic-stopping black mini-dress. But as many would’ve put together upon further inspection, the outfit is actually a sartorial salute to one of DiCaprio’s most famous films.

Plucked from the Fall/Winter 2023 collection of NYC-based brand The Blonds, the look featured a giant sapphire-hued diamond necklace adorned on the dress.

The supersized stone—that was, hopefully, not as heavy as it looked—hung on the front of her skirt, while three rows of crystals wrapped around the dramatic bodice. Beckinsale opted for equally daring accessories with a large black hair bow and sky-high platform heels.

Most will instantly recognise it as the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ diamond that Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, symbolically threw into the abyss in Titanic. Gifted to her by her villainous fiancé, Cal, the diamond (also known as Le Cœur de la Mer) is a fictional piece of jewellery said to be made from a 56-carat blue diamond in the 1997 James Cameron film. After it was used to frame DiCaprio’s character, Jack, it eventually found its home at the bottom of the ocean.

Beckinsale and DiCaprio have been longtime friends after starring in The Aviator together back in 2004. And though the actor is known to be a bit of a prankster himself, we’d pay good money to have seen his reaction to the look.
