After a tumultuous six-months wherein she was cancelled for likening being locked down in her Los Angeles mansion to that of prison and for allegedly fostering a toxic workplace environment, it looks like Ellen DeGeneres has gotten her stride back.
The talk show host, who used to rely on her ‘nice guy’ persona, had that shattered when allegations of sexual misconduct, racism and workplace bullying began being shared online by current and former employees in late 2020. But now, with help from some of her famous friends, it’s clear that the 62-year-old isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
In fact, proving how much of a hold she still has over the entertainment industry, DeGeneres was the place where Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel chose to confirm that they’ve given birth to their second child. Instead of announcing the news themselves, via social media or through a press release, Timberlake opted to share not only his son’s arrival, but also his name, with DeGeneres during an upcoming Zoom interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In a preview clip, the 39-year-old pop star confirmed he and Biel added a second son to the fold in 2020, as had been rumoured after Timberlake’s former Nsync bandmate spilled the news in July. The notoriously private couple, who married in 2012 and share five-year-old son Silas, had not revealed they were expecting.
“His name is Phineas, and he’s awesome and so cute, and nobody’s sleeping,” Timberlake told DeGeneres. “But we’re thrilled. We’re thrilled and couldn’t be happier. Very grateful.”
When DeGeneres asked how different it is to be parenting two children instead of just one, Timberlake joked, “We don’t see each other anymore.” Before adding, “It’s a lot of fun, but I guess the saying goes, you go from a zone defense to a man-to-man really quickly. Sort of like, ‘You go get that one, I’ll get this one!'”
The family’s happy news comes after Timberlake was spotted drunkenly holding hands with his co-star Alisha Wainwright during a night out. At the time, Biel would have been secretly pregnant with the couple’s second child. Timberlake then released a public apology to his wife, writing, “I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family, I feel it is important to address recent rumours that are hurting the people I love. A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement – but let me be clear – nothing happened between me and my co-star. I drank way too much that night and I regret my behaviour. I should have known better.”
