Sure, you could put Jennifer Lopez’s incredibly svelte 50-year-old body in a paper bag and she would still look good (although it would really need to be a fitted paper bag to show off those curves). But wearing Monse Spring 2020 she looks even better.

Making us completely and utterly re-evaluate our thoughts on tartan – stuffy and not so stylish – Monse’s form-fitting tartan frock has cast afresh the Scottish pattern, taking it from Haggis to holy smokes in a (very) hot second. Sleeveless at the shoulder with a high, irregular, almost lopsided neck, the fitted dress hugs Lopez’s famous curves like she was born to be in it, the black and beige pattern moving seamlessly with the curvature of her body, proving you don’t need to have it all out to look and feel ‘sexy’.

Cut on the bias with the designer’s signature asymmetrical hemline, a nude suede pump, black cuff and delicate earring complete the look along with a sexy leg reveal. And the final touch? A quaint pearl anklet, a trend which has been rife on the streets of Fashion Month.

But perhaps the designer’s Instagram sums it up best. “No caption necessary.” When you look this good, indeed. A wee bit of tartan for the win.
