Following ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s move to drop a 14-minute short film accompaniment to her new 10-minute version of her track “All Too Well”, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Instagram page has become a playground for Swift fans.
The song, originally released in a three-minute abbreviation in 2012, chronicles the relationship breakdown of then-21-year-old Swift and then-30-year-old Gyllenhaal’s three-month love affair which began in October 2010. Special lyrical attention is paid to Swift specifically leaving her scarf at Gyllenhaal’s sister’s place over Thanksgiving.
“But you keep my old scarf from that very first week / Because it reminds of innocence and it smells like you / You can’t get rid of it, because you remember it all too well,” Swift sings.
The extended 10-minute version of the song – released on November 12 2021 – and its 14-minute short film starring Sadie Sink, 19, and Dylan O’Brien, 30, added more kindling to the narrative. Watch the film here.
Swift sings of “weeping in a party bathroom” after “someone” didn’t turn up to her 21st birthday. “You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes” Swift says in one line. “Sipping coffee like you’re on a late-night show / But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come / And he said, ‘It’s supposed to be fun turning twenty-one.’”

As a result of this spillage of tea, Swift fans have (rather amusingly) filled Gyllenhaal’s Instagram page with little red scarf emojis. In his latest post, the actor, 40, is trying to promote his new Michael Bay-directed film Ambulance (out in the US on February 18, 2022) and some of the hilarious comments include:
“Where’s the scarf Jake?”
“It’s a bad week to be Jake Gyllenhaal.”
“Jake must be in the basement crying for not returning the scarf.”
“Is it true that you still got it in your drawer, even now?”
“Bestie, how are you dealing with the ten minute long song, all good?”
“’I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age’. Damn, Jake.”
“Just between us did the love affair maim u too?”
“I love you but I’m sorry for the person I’m about to become on November 12.”
“Just listened to it. You’re done.”
“Give her the scarf back.”
“Send the scarf back, it’s not too late,”

“Forgot this guy existed and now I’m here Googling his girlfriend’s age.”
“Imagine how different your life would be right now if you had just gone to a birthday party and returned a scarf.”
“Imagine dating someone for 3 months 11 years ago and waking up to THIS. I LOVE IT.”
This last comment nails it. Relationships of any duration, and at any age, can be felt so deeply. But is it entirely necessary to rehash a three-month relationship 11 years after it ended, knowing full well an army of hundreds of thousands of fans would harass your ex-partner, his sister and current girlfriend?

For those wondering, Gyllenhaal is reportedly in a relationship with 25-year-old French model Jeanne Cadieu.
The pair made their red carpet debut in September 2021 at the New York Film Festival for The Lost Daughter premiere. They posed alongside Gyllenhaal’s sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard. Gyllenhaal and Cadieu have reportedly been dating since late 2018.
Swift has been in a relationship with actor Joe Alwyn since October 2016. While Cadieu is probably feeling the heat, imagine poor Joe. Has anybody checked on him?

Sparking rumours of a romance at a taping of Saturday Night Live in October of 2010, the pair cemented their relationship status when they famously went for a stroll through New York City before visiting Gyllenhaal’s sister, Maggie, for Thanksgiving. Swift was 21 at the time, Gyllenhaal was 30.

Gyllenhaal reportedly called it quits with the singer in January 2011. “Jake just told her it wasn’t working out. Taylor is really upset and hurt. She feels really burned by him,” a source told US Weekly at the time.
