Whether we are escaping the mundanity of our restricted lives or the messiness of our social media feeds, a woman’s nighttime routine has become a much-needed tool to disconnect and relax. In this series “How I Wind Down…”, we speak to a lot of different women about how they prepare for a restful evening.

While The Pilates Class founder Jacqui Kingswell admits she prefers exercising in the morning, “I find that it sets me up for the day ahead and gives me a lot of energy,” the trainer tells GRAZIA, she also encourages her members to take a calm class or stretch class in the evening to help wind down. If you’re unacquainted with the celebrity pilates instructor, Kingswell is behind the toned stomachs of Kaia Gerber and Natasha Oakley and in 2020, built a huge platform for online, at home, pilates classes.

Since her success, Kingswell has branched out to launch her first ever apparel line aptly dubbed the “Chill Collection”. The four-piece capsule of branded loungewear has been ethically manufactured in Los Angeles with premium fabrics and serves as the perfect apparel for a TPC workout or for winding down at home.

To help us all wind down during this very hot and humid party season, GRAZIA spoke with the instructor to gain further insight into her own night time routine.

GRAZIA: Can you describe your nighttime beauty routine?

“I like to keep my night time beauty routine pretty simple whilst also looking after my skin! I use a basic cleanser, osmosis rescue serum, hyaluronic acid and the Dr Barbara Sturm face cream. I find that this regime works best for me and my skin in winter. In the summer I take out the moisturising face cream as my face is less dry.”

How do you wind down after a busy day?

“After a long day my favourite thing to do is to cook. Being in the kitchen makes me so happy. I then like to disconnect from my phone, have a sleepy tea and read before bed. If I’m really lucky my husband will give me a leg massage.”

How do you decorate your space to assist in falling asleep?

“I feel the most calm when we have our diffuser on with some beautiful essential oils. I think it is so important to feel calm in the space that you sleep in, so I also try to separate myself from technology in my bedroom and keep the space clutter free.”

What time do you go to sleep?

“When I’m in my regular routine, I try to be in bed by about 10pm and asleep around 10.30pm.”

Do you plan the next day’s look the night before or in the morning? If so, what’s your go-to look for an easy morning the next day?

“I like to prep my look the day before because it means there is less to think about in the morning and it makes me feel organised for the day ahead. I basically live in activewear so my go to look would be a pair of leggings, a cute sports bra and an oversized button up shirt.”
