1999 Sarah Michelle Gellar stars in the hit tv series “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”

Collectively, women as a body have worked particularly hard these past 12 months. We’ve forged ahead in leaps and bounds to fight for the rights to our bodies, for our inclusion in parliament, for equal pay, for respect and for each other. In a single Instagram post, Sarah Michelle Gellar hit the plight of feminism back 50 years, something most didn’t see coming given her most famous role was a feminist superhero by the name of Buffy.

The 41-year-old actress has been slammed by the internet for body shaming, one day prior to America’s favourite holiday – Thanksgiving. (Translation: A time to eat all of the food.) Gellar posted a series of throwback images of a Maxim shoot she did in 2007. The sisterhood is all here for that – but it was the caption that was decidedly not ok. “I’m just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday #thanksgivingprep.”

Even if it were an inside thought, it should have remained that way. Gellar, despite not being is able to convert her Buffy fame into a film career, is still a public figure and those comments could be deemed triggering to any insecure young fans.

Debra Messing replied to Gellar’s post with a “Are you KIDDING ME!?!” while Shannon Doherty responded with a series of flame emojis.

Despite the online uproar, Gellar is yet to take the image down, amend the caption or retract or address her comment. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this one.
