Irina Shayk was one of the many big-name models to make it to the desert over the weekend for the first instalment of Coachella, using the opportunity to cement herself as having one of the most stylish off-duty wardrobes, even when it comes to festival attire.

In recent years, the annual Palm Springs two-weekend event has become almost just as famous for its celebrity sightings and the fashion on display as it is for its musical line-up, with influencers arriving en masse for not only the main event, but for the parties surrounding it, wearing cowboy boots, glitter and eye-catching colours.

But for the most part, the celebrity attendees have begun leaning in the complete opposite direction, going more low-key than they would for a mid-week dinner date in WeHo in the likes of tank tops, jeans and sneakers. Just look at Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Camila Morrone for proof.

For her part, Shayk used the opportunity to wear ‘fits she wouldn’t wear day-to-day, while opting for a black theme — in line with both Jenner and Morrone, which immediately elevated her outfit, skewing her away from the regular festie goers, while still making an impact.

On Friday, Shayk wore a full-length see-through black dress, adding a goth-inspired black lace choker and rosary beads around her neck and a sultry red lip. On her feet, she wore a pair of black knee-high boots and added a black coat for nighttime when the temperatures drop.

The next day, Shayk lent into Rosalia’s Motomami theme to watch the Spanish star headline, wearing a tight black jumpsuit with cut-outs at the chest and adding a pair of black oversized motorcycle glasses, similar to the pair Rosalia later wore on the main stage during her performance.

Shayk added a pair of black strappy sandals with black socks underneath, posing on a golf cart and beside a car, giving Lara Croft energy.

Later that night, the 37-year-old was spotted partying at Coachella’s infamous after-party Neon Carnival where she was photographed standing and dancing closely with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Page Six jumped on the story, hinting that there could be a new romance afoot — this is the place where we had a Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello reunion and  Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny sightings, after all — however it pays to note that Shayk and DiCaprio were also with Stella Maxwell, a longtime friend of the both of them and were very likely just hanging out.

It may feel counterintuitive, but next time you head to the desert, think black.
