Outside, a bucolic pasture of lush greenery and flowers at first bloom. Inside, an empty room, parquet floors, a single stool and The Row’s new capsule collection for NET-A-PORTER. It’s a simple setting but one that speaks volumes of the House; one of deft minimalism, refined form and timeless elegance.

For its founders, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, fashion was a new métier; moving from the flashy world of acting and celebrity to the rather elusive world of fashion, they contrived a brand which soon became a barometer of chic. It was as if to wear The Row you had to be part of a stylish clique; a kind of exclusive, members-only circle for those in the stylish know, who much like the fiercely private designers possess that same kind of ineffable, enigmatic air. You don’t just wear the best-selling Bare Sandals, you wear their luxurious cashmere, their wool-blend suits, their signature satin knotted bags. You favour fit and functionality over trend and trimming. You think of the future not the now; of longevity and investment and the imperishable pieces that will last the test of time, and beyond. And with the recent upheaval at Céline, which left many devoted Philo-fans high and fashionably dry, The Row was seen as the saviour of their modern, minimalist aesthetic, an avenue to pursue their puritan fashion dreams.

This new, ultra-exclusive capsule collection for NET-A-PORTER is another safe place for those fans to flee. It imbues the simplistic, refined codes of the House in a streamlined collection which centres around a solitary streak of Spring-inspired colour – a powdery chambray blue. For the most part, colour is not part of The Row’s DNA, so the capsule’s use of colour – albeit a soft muted tone – sees an interesting diversion into new territory. Key silhouettes from The Row’s collections are reinterpreted exclusively for NET-A-PORTER, including an assortment of ready-to-wear styles such as The Row’s classic camisole, a long sleeve gathered blouse, a long puff sleeve v-neck dress, pleated skirt, classic crew neck cashmere sweater, and sleeveless turtleneck blouse. The banana slouch bag rounds out the collection, along with their cult shoe, the Bare Sandal, which makes an appearance in both the elevated and flat variations in the capsule’s signature cornflower blue.

“Perfect for women on the go who still want to look polished, The Row’s high summer capsule of light and wearable pieces will solve any summer workwear dilemma,” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, Global Buying Director of NET-A-PORTER. A collection for those not inspired by fad or frivolity, rather the ease, quality and comfort of The Row, it’s slow fashion to savour. Into the chambray blue we go.
