The guest list for this year’s Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party was made up of every big-name celebrity in Hollywood and beyond right now, each of whom hit the red carpet in an outfit made to grab attention: Emily Ratajkowski opted to free the nipple in a sheer, sparkling naked dress, Olivia Wilde wore a leather bra, and Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine made their first official public appearance since Levine’s cheating scandal last year.

But no one could compete with Hunter Schafer, who singlehandedly shut down the red carpet and the internet — especially the section of it made up of the Girls and the Gays — when she debuted Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s first collection as the new creative director of Ann Demeulemeester.

The low-rise maxi skirt and single feather top, which was debuted on the runway in Paris just over a week ago, was the show’s closing look. Schafer, who was styled by her Euphoria co-star Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach, wore it exactly as it appeared on the runway for the red carpet, later coordinating with a matching jacket while inside the event to counter Los Angeles’ colder temperatures.

Zendaya was quick to comment her approval of the look on Instagram, writing, “STUNNING” on Roach’s Instagram post. Katy Perry added “ATE” and, on the official Demeulemeester account, influencer and fashion writer Camille Charrerie wrote, “Ok best dressed.”

Underneath the champagne-coloured skirt, Schafer wore white platform Jimmy Choo heels, adding various silver rings to her hands, showing off her water-drop nail art. She kept her makeup to a minimal, opting for a smoky hazel eye and pink blush, leaving her mermaid-length hair cascading down her back in breezy waves.

Queer menswear designer de Saint Sernin was an unlikely choice to fill the top spot at Ann Demeulemeester, a label known for its dark romanticism. But through his first show — and this look, which uses the feather, an unofficial symbol of Ann Demeulemeester, to perfectly marry de Saint Sernin’s bold, sensuality — proves the choice was, at the very least, one that’s going to capture attention in all the right ways.
