Since his early days in One Direction, Harry Styles has been idolised by men and women all over the globe. Recent years and one or two feather boas later have seen the “Watermelon Sugar” singer rise to sex god standards but according to Styles, it has never really felt that way. In a surprise cover interview with Better Homes & Gardens (yes, you read that correctly), the 28-year-old has explained why he felt ashamed about sex.

“For a long time, it felt like the only thing that was mine was my sex life,” Styles told the publication. “I felt so ashamed about it, ashamed at the idea of people even knowing that I was having sex, let alone who with.”

He continued, “At the time, there were still the kiss-and-tell things. Working out who I could trust was stressful. But I think I got to a place where I was like, why do I feel ashamed? I’m a 26-year-old man who’s single; it’s like, yes, I have sex.”

On the topic of sex (in a home maintenance magazine no less), the singer added that disclosing his sexual identity to the public is “outdated” information. Styles is often seen gracing photoshoots in gowns, waving pride flags on tour and leaning into androgynous style.

“I’ve been really open with it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience; it’s mine,” he said. “The whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn’t matter, and it’s about not having to label everything, not having to clarify what boxes you’re checking.”

Styles is currently dating actress and director, Olivia Wilde.

His profile arrives off the back of the announcement that he will release his third studio album, Harry’s House on May 20, 2022. Tickets have just been released for his Australian tour which will see his long-awaited return in February next year.
