Halle Berry has become known as something of a red carpet doyenne, serving iconic looks each and every time she steps in front of the cameras. Of course, who could forget the red semi-sheer Elie Saab gown she donned back in 2002 for her first Oscars win, or the frothy chiffon Marchesa she wore to the ceremony in 2011. While Berry has always been one to take risks when it comes to fashion and beauty, her latest Oscars look has unfortunately drawn some criticism.
The star revealed a new asymmetrical blunt bob at this week’s awards, with short bangs chopped in to boot. It was a fresh change for the actor, who had been wearing longer locks right up until the hours before the Oscars. She had hinted at a hair transformation in the lead up to the evening, posting a picture of her lopped-off lengths lying on the floor.

But once Berry’s new hair was revealed, Twitter had mixed reactions. While some appeared to appreciate the fashion-forward style, others likened it to a bowl cut. But when a Twitter user compared Berry’s new bob to a wig worn in parody by rapper Saucy Santana, the actor joined in on the joke by posting both a sighing and a laughing emoji in reply.

Putting aside the discussions over her hair, this year’s Oscars were significant for Berry, having been her first public outing with musician boyfriend Van Hunt. The superstar couple first confirmed their relationship in September last year, and have appeared super loved-up ever since.
Grammy winner Hunt even shared a series of sweet snaps of Berry getting ready for the red carpet, alongside the caption, “1st date night”. As fans of both Berry and her new directional chop, we’re glad to see her looking equal parts stylish and happy.
