Last month, Hailey Bieber revealed she was rushed to hospital after suffering from stroke-like symptoms. The next day, both she and her husband, Justin Bieber, released statements telling the public all was A-OK with the model’s health, however, in a new YouTube video Bieber reveals she actually underwent heart surgery following the incident.

In the candid clip, titled ‘Telling my story’, the 25-year-old revealed she recently had a patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure procedure performed to mend a hole in her heart. “As some people know, I had a very scary incident on March 10th, basically I was sitting at breakfast with my husband having a normal day, normal conversation and we were in the middle of talking and all of a sudden I felt this really weird sensation,” she said.

Bieber went on to say she felt as though she was having a stroke — she couldn’t speak or move — and her husband immediately got 911 on the phone.

After being rushed to a Palm Springs area hospital with the stroke-like symptoms, Bieber discovered she had a blood clot which travelled to her brain and caused a transient ischemic attack (TIA). Doctors couldn’t figure out how it got there, so they underwent more tests and discovered she had a PFO. “A flap between the right and left chambers of the heart,” Bieber explained. “Typically at birth it’s supposed to close on its own,” she added, noting hers didn’t.

“They found that I had a grade five which is the highest grade you can have. Mine was fairly large. What typically happens is the heart will filter the blood clot to the lungs and the lungs will absorb it because they’re so big and they can handle it.”

Thankfully, the surgery went well. “It went very smoothly … I’m recovering really well, really fast,” she said, adding, “I’m really relieved I will be able to just move on from this really scary situation and live my life.”

Bieber’s husband previously described the situation as “really scary.”

“Most of you probably know or have seen the news about my wife … but she’s OK, she’s good, she’s strong,” he said during his concert in Denver, which he later posted on Instagram.“But it’s been scary, you know, it’s been really scary,” he added. “But I know for a fact that God has her in the palms of his hands, and that’s a good thing.”
