Often our fascination for the lives of the rich and famous stretches beyond their daily wardrobe and unexpected relationships to more personal aspects, like inside their home. Following the likes of Dakota Johnson’s quirky rainforest home and Margot Robbie’s Los Angeles oasis, Gwyneth Paltrow has opened her home to the eager gaze of fans for the latest issue of Architectural Digest.

The actress and her gorgeous Montecito mansion appeared on the front cover of the March issue and in the publication widely-celebrated YouTube series, Open Door.

Paltrow enlisted the help of her longtime collaborators, designers Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams for the home which took a total of six years to design and build. The furniture was curated by Paltrow and a close friend.

“The strength of the house is in the subtleties of light and space,” Paltrow says in the feature. “We spent a lot of time assessing family patterns, how we really live, what makes us most comfortable. The focus was on the experience, the emotion.”

At the helm of a cult wellness and lifestyle brand, goop, it comes as no surprise that the space is not only beautiful, but zen-like. As if it was a luxurious Parisian spa. Speaking of, the house boasts a huge tiled private spa. Other standout pieces include a marble bar and indoor swing.

The Oscar-winning actress came across the location when visiting the Santa Barbara area with her family in 2015. She was scrolling through real estate listing app Redfin, before discovering the teardown. “There were wild animals living there and swarms of bugs, but I fell in love with the land and the views,” she told the publication.

If you’re looking for more sage inspiration from the 49-year-old, may we suggest her new year’s detox (which includes dry brushing and cauliflower smoothies – it’s never too late!).
