Before Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, there was another celebrity couple no one saw coming: that of musician Grimes and tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Despite seemingly coming from opposite worlds, the pair bonded when Musk made a (very nerdy) joke about artificial intelligence, which he later realised Grimes had already beat him to. In fact, she’d made an entire music video about it. The unlikely duo went on to date, then have a child together which they blessed with the world’s most unfortunate name: X Æ A-Xii.
But a few months later, in September 2020, Musk confirmed the two had split, with Grimes going on to post an iconic photo of herself reading Karl Marx’s famous anti-capitalist book ‘The Communist Manifesto’ upon her break up from one of the world’s richest men.
Now, another plot twist: popping in to bless us with one more surprise twist before the year is out, Grimes shared a new baby bump photo to Instagram:
The post is reminiscent of the singer’s first pregnancy announcement with her and Musk’s child, showing her with a fake backdrop of space and wearing her signature heavy eye makeup and clothes. Naturally, fans went into meltdown mode: “The queen is pregnant😳👑,” one person wrote, while another asked, “Omg preggers again?”
Grimes has not responded to any of the questions on the photo and her caption doesn’t give anything away either. She wrote simply, “@chenman @chkltk,” tagging two of her collaborators, which could mean she’s trolling us and the pic is hinting at a project to come, but could also mean they helped with the announcement shot. What does it all mean!
As for whether Musk could be the dad of the (maybe) baby number two? In September, he confirmed to Page Six he and Grimes had split, but that they were still close and spent a lot of time together.
“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” he said at the time. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or travelling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”
