The most unexpected celebrity news of, I’m going to say, this decade, is the resurrection of Beniffer.
Jennifer Lopez, who was very recently engaged to be married to Alex Rodrigues, and Ben Affleck, who was very recently in a relationship with Ana De Armas, are now back together, 17 years after the end of their initial romance.
Though no one knows how or when these two began speaking again, let alone dating, since rumours first started a few weeks ago. Already, in pure pandemic turbo relationship perfection, we’ve seen the pair take off on romantic vacations to both Montana in a private jet, and Miami, where they’re now hanging out (read: Affleck is smoking, while Lopez is meditating).
Given we’re 16 months into a pandemic, most of us are very much enjoying this time portal back to 2004. A simpler time before social media, before lockdowns and when low-rise jeans and Jenny from the Block reigned supreme.
But apparently, A-Rod isn’t the only of Lopez’s exes to not be too happy about Beniffer 2.0.
Last night, Diddy decided to add to the discourse. The rapper, who J.Lo dated from September 1999 to February 2001 (she began dating Affleck originally the next year in 2002), posted a stunning throwback photo of himself and Lopez to Instagram from when they were dating. In the paparazzizi image, the pair are holding hands while walking.
The caption? Simply “#tbt.”
As for what Diddy meant by the photo? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe he wanted to acknowledge the hilarity of Lopez and Affleck’s reunion. Maybe he’s trolling us. Maybe he’s attempting to shoot his shot and get J. Lo back himself.
