Just like the magpie, the couture beauty universe is currently fixated on shiny objects. At Valentino, it came in the form of a glitter brow in shades of mint, lavender, cobalt, emerald, and fuchsia.

Real brows were concealed – bleached almost – while the glitter was pressed in an arch underneath with painstaking precision. The eyes themselves were enveloped in thick black kohl, extending to a sharp feline flick at the outer corners.

With such a bold beauty statement, there was no need for anything further. Fresh skin, bare lips, and slick hair completed the look. The couture however, is another story.

Pat McGrath, the luminary behind the magic, is known for her love of textural glamour, so it’s no surprise the Valentino vibe was an excellent mash-up colour and creativity.

The one deviation was supermodel Lauren Hutton, who at 75 walked the runway with such an understated elegance, she quite literally smashed any connotations of ageism right out of the ball park. Her face was all but bare, just a hint of blush and some lipstick for good measure. And amid the kaleidoscopic colour spectrum, she looked just as special. The green gown and fuchsia gloves didn’t hurt, of course.

If you too have a penchant for shiny things, go for bold, multi-use glitter products you can use in a myriad of ways. Press onto eyelids, use a brush to paint on as liner, dust onto cheek bones, or press atop lip gloss without abandon.
