Yesterday, in a welcomed interruption from COVID-19 coverage, TMZ and Entertainment Tonight reported Gigi Hadid was pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik. And it literally sent the world into a spin with many people wondering if it’s a hoax.
The 25-year-old’s father Mohamed Hadid was asked about his daughters unconfirmed pregnancy and his answer seemed a tiny bit strange. “Let me digest it and talk to her first ’cause I’m not sure if it’s real or not,” he said while being interviewed by Al Jadeed TV. “If she is, I’ll be very happy just as long as the baby is healthy and she’s healthy.”
“That’s all I care [about],” he continued. “I’ll be very proud of her if she has one. As of now, I’m not sure, so that’s why I can’t give an answer.”
The model and her father are seemingly quite close so if Hadid is indeed 20 weeks along like reports suggest, wouldn’t she have told her dad by now?
Meanwhile, since the news broke, Hadid has posted to Instagram but has not confirmed or denied the rumours. Instead, she’s posted a story about cooking Spicy Vodka Pasta. But – and it’s a big but – she has omitted the vodka in her version, a possible sign she could be pregnant.
Eagle-eyed fans also noticed the two strings on her birthday balloons at the weekend were pink and blue, a possible sign that Hadid’s 25th birthday celebrations doubled as a gender reveal party.
“Gigi and Zayn are expecting their first child together and the couple is very excited!” one source told Entertainment Tonight. “Gigi has kept the secret close to her family and friends for a while as she’s only a few months along. Once Gigi and Zayn got back together at the end of last year, it was like they never skipped a beat and knew what they had was special. The couple and their families are overjoyed.”
In February, the model spoke about her desire to have children – in the future – with i-D magazine. “I think that as I get older… well one day I’ll start a family and I don’t know if I will always be modelling,” she said. “I love the creative side of fashion, it’s so fulfilling. The people I work with make me so happy, I’m so lucky to be around them. But who knows? Maybe I’ll take up full time cooking!”
