International fashion month: A time period that sees international media, buyers and VIPs drop everything in a flurry of activity that takes them from New York to London, Milan and then finally Paris. And while the main purpose of the show-packed 28 days is to deliver a preview of just what to expect over the next six months in the fashion department, it also gives insight into what’s coming up for beauty trends in hair and makeup.

Across the month, some very clear trends were spotted hitting the runway -everything from ombre lips to two-toned everything and unique takes on the popular cat eye. But it was the shows that had a little fun with the beauty that really got us excited.

Narrowing the countless stand-out looks to just five was an almost impossible task, but below we bring you those moments that had us grabbing our phones and taking notes.

1. Exaggerated blush at Nina Ricci
Created by Janeen Witherspoon, the beauty look took inspiration from rodeo queens – with designer Guillame Henry imagining the Nina Ricci woman sweating it out in the Nevada desert. The result? Over-emphasised flushed cheeks.

2. Harajuku hair at Anna Sui
Providing a new take on the top knot, Anna Sui saw hair tied up in double half top buns in “Minnie Mouse”-esque bundles. Inspired by eccentric parties thrown by Elsa Schiaparelli, hair was led by R+Co’s Garren.

3. Rainbow hues at Maison Margiela
There’s never a dull moment when makeup visionary Pat McGrath is in the makeup chair. From colourful feathers on some models’ lashes to bright graphic shapes – McGrath didn’t hold back for this show.

4. Red smoke at Alberta Ferretti
The most stunning eye look of the fashion week round-up would have to go to the Alberta Ferretti show. Described as ‘Venice At Night’, MAC products were used to create a dramatic smokey eye in shades of black, gold, and red.

5. Jewel-encrusted lips at Gucci
Gucci was seen taking the glitter lip trend to a whole new level at the AW17 collection show, with red and silver jewels being applied to models lips to deliver a 3D effect for the ultimate in bling.
