The bike short – that elusive thigh-hugger not for the fainthearted – continues to pedal ahead at full pace, with one of its major celebrity proponents championing its scant wares once again. Emily Ratajkowski, lover of all things tight and taut, has been spotted hitting the streets of New York City in an elongated version of the bike short, a kind of pedal pusher meets cycling short by cult NYC label, Khaite.

On her way to the WrapWomen 2019 Power Women breakfast, Ratajkowski traded the cycling vest for a cheeky bra and blazer combo – the bra from Ratajkowski’s own brand, Inamorata, which (surprise, surprise) focuses on swim and body wear – while the oversized oatmeal blazer was by The Row. Footwear took the form of a glossy croc kitten heel by Giuseppe Zanotti and her handbag was an equally croc-y mini tote by Hayward.

As for the bike short’s longevity in the fickle and frankly myopic world of fashion, if Ratajkowski and her It-Gal pals continue to tout the style it will remain a steadfast in fixture in style circles, particularly this more user-friendly, elevated variety. But then again, we are talking about the competitive sport of fashion here, it could lose out to the next big thing in a flash.
