At its very core, party dressing can be defined by two things: fun and frivolity. Yes, ’tis the season to be jolly – even by way of dress. It’s a time when anything goes and fashion becomes that little bit more jovial and light-hearted; sequins by day, silk by night – or a lovely mash-up of it all. Consider Emilia Clarke’s Prada ensemble. Embellishment, ruffles, cut-outs – it seemingly had it all, fashion food groups you’d typically not group together but in the glorious spirit of Christmas, a wonder to behold.

Attending the London premiere of her new film, ‘Last Christmas‘, earlier in the week, the British actress made a dazzling case for fashion with all the trimmings. The spectacular black cady dress by Prada featured a pencil skirt and detailed top, embellished both around the neck and down the centre with crystal embroidery, it fanned out with tiers of organza ruffle, proving sparkly yet sophisticated. Clarke completed the look with a pair of simple strappy heels by Gianvito Rossi and not-so-simple Cartier jewels.

When dressing for the impending party season, take heed of Emilia Clarke’s take on festive fashion and embrace the glint and glamour but tone it down by pulling back on something else. In Clarke’s case, she forwent an abbreviated hem for a conservative mid-length, while still indulging a little skin up top.

Here, a few party-ready, Emilia Clarke-inspired pieces to kick off the holiday season.
