When Dior cast Elizabeth Debicki as an ambassador for the house, it almost felt like they had reinvigorated the spirit of Princess Diana that lies within some of the Maison’s treasured designs.

Now, in the Jardin des Tuileries, the Australian actress has conjured one of the late former Princess of Wales’ most iconic silhouettes in a Dior set from the French luxuriate’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection.

The 33-year-old is in the French capital to attend Dior’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection presentation, hosted during Paris Fashion Week. As our fashion features editor, Pema Bakshi noted in her show report, Debecki is just one of the “famous faces” in the “undulating mass in front of the mounted arena Dior has constructed”.

But from a distance, Debicki’s towering frame, noble posture and prowess for showcasing Dior’s glamour almost made her appear as an homage to Lady Spencer.

For the occasion, the Emmy Award nominee has adorned a crumpled black skirt set, featuring a crinkled, collard, short-sleeve shirt in the style of Monsieur Dior’s New Look bar jacket and a calf-grazing midi skirt.

If it weren’t for her bright blonde hair cascading down her back and absence of the Princess Diana’s beloved Lady Dior bag, we wouldn’t have doubted if you told us this was a never-before-seen image from the set of The Crown season six.

Though Princess Diana rarely wore black outside of a funeral setting, it could be possible that Debicki has channelled the 1997 image of the late royal wearing a crisp skirt suit set while departing St. George’s Church.

There’s no need to point out the parallels, you can draw them, for yourself below.

Though Princess Diana never attended a Dior show, her penchant for the house was insurmountable, with Dior’s then-creative director, John Galliano, designing the satin and lace boudoir-style dress she wore to attend the Met Gala in 1996.
