Makaveli Bondi
Makaveli, 177 Shop 2/179 Glenayr Avenue Bondi Beach. Make a reservation

“A new Italian-inspired contemporary eatery popped up in Bondi in late June giving the small plate scene on Glenayr and Hall streets a pronounced serve. Makaveli, the brainchild of former Cali Press Area Manager Jacob Hill and Milpa Collective Area Manager Phill Cooke, is a 28-seat café-come-cosy-bar fast becoming known for its bright bites: delectable wild mushroom arancini balls with truffle mayo, cheesy croquettes with pickled kumquat, and a fresh kingfish crudo with capers, radish and flowers. Don’t forget the sourdough bread with Vegemite house butter—it sounds strange but is delicious—and wash it all down with a fresh spicy marg or elderflower spritz. While Makaveli does morning coffees from 6am, it’s most vibey at night and makes for a great date spot with good music. We also love a female head chef. This one is Jessica Young, whose culinary journey spans Michelin Guide recognised venues in Scotland, East London, and now Sydney.” – Jessica Bailey, Editorial Director

Dior Small Toujours Bag, $5500 SHOP NOW

“I love a bucket bag, but they can sometimes feel a bit too casual, whereas I prefer my accessories to feel more luxurious to pair with my more lived-in outfits. When I first spotted Dior’s new Toujours Bag, it really sang out as a potential new love. With its unique rectangular shape, macrocannage stitching, adjustable handles and classic D.I.O.R charms, it might just be the bag of my dreams.” — Pema Bakshi, Fashion Features Editor

CHANEL Les 4 Ombres Byzance #308 Parure Impériale, $120 SHOP NOW

“Nomadic soul Gabrielle Chanel returned from one of her trips to Venice with an obsession for Byzantine art, a passion so large its mosaics, sculptures and precious metalworks would go on to influence her haute couture and jewellery designs. This CHANEL season, the House’s iconic LES 4 OMBRES eye palette—with its hammered gold base housing punchy pigments—plays into the bold Baroque spirit of vintage jewels. My favourite? The Parure Impériale palette: the goldy yellow sapphire, the dazzling red quartz, the purply garnet, and the subtle rose gold top coat. It’s opulence in your purse, and perfect for a glamorous night out.” – Jessica Bailey, Editorial Director

Faithfull The Brand Reis Maxi Dress Flori Floral, $219 SHOP NOW.

“Despite the date on the calendar, Sydney’s balmy weather of late has been signalling Spring will, well spring, earlier than expected. In anticipation of the blissful, sun-soaked days ahead surrounded by budding blooms and brighter complexions, I’m looking to Faithful The Brand’s new ‘La Muse’ collection for inspiration to add to my wardrobe. Between winter coats and summer minis, I’m lacking effortlessly elegant Spring-time pieces. I’ve settled on this floral maxi dress. A style that preserves a sense of glamour but is still suitable for casual Fridays and can be dressed up for languid lunches ahead. The small blooms are delicate enough to not be an overpowering ‘Floral for Spring’ moment, yet are still apt for the season and timeless enough to rewear. ” — Ava Gilchrist, Senior Fashion Features Writer

Dr. Dennis Gross DermInfusions 3D Visible Fill + Repair Serum, $120 at MECCA SHOP NOW

“This serum has been dubbed as a topical alternative to Botox and it’s truly worth the hype. I’ve never been one to fuss over fine lines, and I’m yet to dabble into any injectables, but after just two weeks, I could notice my skin looking noticeably smoother. I was initially more drawn to this serum’s hydrating capabilities (which it delivered in spades), so was pretty chuffed with the bonus volume. One of the many reasons this serum has been so effective is due to its patented MicroCelle Delivery, which enhances the absorption of key ingredients. With this, the hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and plethora of antioxidants can really work their magic.” — Pema Bakshi, Fashion Features Editor

Apple watch series 8

APPLE Watch Series 8, from $629 SHOP NOW

Along with the Barbie movie, Apple are making deft choices in putting people with uteruses front and centre. The new Apple Watch Series 8 has temperature sensing in-built which provides retrospective ovulation estimates and advanced cycle tracking features. (Our bodies experience a temperature shift in the days preceding ovulation.) As sleek and as bright as the edge-to-edge retina display on the Series 7, the 8 can measure your temperature as you sleep (and even account for when the watch might be hot under the covers!). Simply turn on notifications and your watch can tell you when your next period and fertile window is approaching. As with my 7, I like the gold stainless steel colourway with the Gold Milanese Loop so it matches my jewellery. Oh, and it’s battery can now last between 18 and 36 hours!

Yu Mei Teresa Tote In Seamist, $1259 SHOP NOW.

“Unlike Cousin Greg’s Tinderella in Succession, I’m not averse to being called out for lugging a ludicrously capacious bag on any and all occasions. Enter: Yu Mei’s highly-sought after Teresa Tote. Subverting the traditional bucket bag silhouette, this deeply spacious holdall is a slightly exaggerated shape that’s underpinned with relaxed ease. Similar to Mary Poppins’ never-ending bag, this purse can hold its weight in what it can carry (see: a laptop, emotional support water bottle and all the beauty salves) making it truly the one-and-done bag for girls on the go. Available in both sumptuous leather and suede, I’m lusting after the sea mist colourway—a hue that matches the soft-as-butter feel of the bag. ” — Ava Gilchrist, Senior Fashion Features Writer

Friends With Frank The Fredric Vest, $221  SHOP NOW

“Living in a transitional climate comes with its own requirements, particularly investing in pieces that are easily layer-able for day-to-day wear. After spotting Friends With Franks’s softly inflated quilted vest, I knew this duvet-rivalling outerwear was the perfect piece to make me feel like I’m wearing a walking comforter, whilst still being the epitome of uncomplicated style. Taking cues from the street style set, I’ve been styling the cream-coloured version of the vest over a billowing boyfriend shirt and with slouchy trousers for days lounging around the house. When the temperature reaches about 25°C, you can rest assured that I’ll be pairing the vest with stripped boxer shorts and a stringy bikini top underneath.” — Ava Gilchrist, Senior Fashion Features Writer

SIR Aries Cut Out Dress, $520 SHOP NOW

“This cult-favourite slip-like silhouette is continually the trend du jour and for good reason. With the mercury rising, I’m looking to expand my resort wear arsenal with this freshly-squeezed lemon-hued dress. Indeed, no tomato girl summer for me, I’m looking to the tangy fruit for sartorial inspiration. Plus, there is something about the combination of lace detailing with lavish silk that will possess an enduring appeal. As someone who is about to head to Denmark for Copenhagen fashion week, I will be channelling my inner Scandi girl and wearing this elevated dress with must-have sneakers. ” — Ava Gilchrist, Senior Fashion Features Writer

Rachel Donath ‘Cono’ Chair, $1,200, SHOP NOW

“Homewares have been consuming my brain as of late. I just bought a place (woohoo, mortgages!), but furnishing it has been more overwhelming than I anticipated. Particularly as someone who loves a variety of aesthetics, it’s hard to pinpoint what I actually want for my home, with everything being second-guessed—including my sanity. One thing I’ve never questioned, though, is how much I love Rachel Donath’s designs. This chair perfectly strikes the balance of rustic/modern I seem to ricochet between and has been on my wishlist for so long. This month, I think it’s time to finally bite the bullet.” — Pema Bakshi, Fashion Features Editor
