As we become more and more conscious about our carbon footprint in the world of fashion, the news of fresh labels with sustainability as an ethos is always welcome news. Enter Edie, and Australian shoe brand in the business of creating vegan and cruelty-free fashion using leather alternatives.

Founded in 2020, Edie has just launched its first collection, a capsule range designed to live on timelessly in your wardrobe. True sustainability is, after all, about investment and longevity. The label spent two years in research mode, ensuring production and manufacturing processes had ethics and sustainability at their core.

Their footwear is created using vegan leather alternatives like microfibre leather – combining microfibre with PU to produce a long-lasting leather alternative at the highest quality grade. Microfibre leather also has a 30 per cent lower impact on the environment than animal based leathers.

Alongside their microfibre leather products are shoes formed from recycled vegan leathers. These are made up of 58% pre/post-consumer polyester, 18% polyurethane, 14% calcium carbonate and 10% protein, and have GRS (Global Recycling Standard) certification. Each product details the materials used for various parts, so you know exactly what your footwear is made of, and products are handmade in China by a family run factory with over 23 years experience.

In terms of design, Edie has a focus on longevity. The current collection features five designs, ranging from strappy heels through to ankle boots. Each design is highly wearable and will pare back with plenty of your go-to outfits, like the Dorothy Flat – a perfect chunky summer sandal available in tan and black vegan leather, or the Jane Loafer – a classic, wear-anywhere style with a modern edge.
