The internet is going into meltdown mode over rumours that Taylor Swift and Drake might be dating, or romantically involved in some way.
While Draylor would be the perfect way to round out 2016, AKA The Year Of Taylor Swift (the Kanye beef, the Calvin Harris break-up, Hiddleswift, it goes on), after some careful analysis we’re willing to bet this is nothing more than gossip column BS.
Let’s begin, shall we?
1. Drake reportedly introduced Taylor to his mum
At Drake’s 30th birthday bash last weekend, Taylor was there and the rapper introduced her to his mum, according to TMZ, and was one of few that got the privilege. This has led some to jump to conclusions, but come on – Taylor Swift is arguably the biggest pop star in the world right now and just the kind of celebrity a mum would want to meet, right? No surprise there.
2. At the party they were “intimately flirting, talking closely and laughing”
Says Page Six. Well, duh. Taylor’s two biggest enemies in the world apart from Kanye West – Katy Perry and John Mayer – were in the room, so she was probably just trying to show off about how tight she is with Drake. Plus, it’s necessary to talk closely in loud, packed rooms. No? And as for laughing at a birthday party … a romance it does not make.
3. The Kanye connection
Kanye slammed Taylor on stage at Drake’s show recently, and the night after his birthday Drake headed to Kanye’s Saint Pablo Tour concert in LA – probably not the best way to impress the woman you’re trying to woo, supporting the man that continues to diss her night after night by rapping about having sex with her and calling her a bitch.
4. Not their types
If Taylor really is in a Love Story with the Canadian rapper, he would be the first non-UK man she has dated in pretty much forever – Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, Harry Styles – and the first man with darker features she’s dated in even longer (John Mayer? Taylor Lautner?) She likes her light-haired, fair-skinned men. Meanwhile, we can’t think of one fair-skinned blonde Drake has ever been linked to. Aside from his very recent ex Rihanna, he’s also been involved with Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose and about a hundred brunette models.
Not saying it isn’t possible they’re both shaking it up and trying something news, but more than likely these two are working on a musical collaboration, or have just bonded over being the faces of Apple Music. We’re scratching off this one until further evidence proves otherwise.
