Milan luxury house Dolce & Gabbana has opened its first flagship boutique—inside an elegant glass trove, no less—in Sydney, Australia. Located inside the historic Sydney MLC centre (with entrance via Castlereagh Street), one rhinestone-embellished step inside the space and you could be on the streets of Alberobello, the Italian town where Dolce & Gabbana hosted their Alta Moda show last month, or inside Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s Portofino estate (where Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker wed).

Like a semi-circular recess inside a church, the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear spaces are sculpted in yellow gold and yellow Siena Italian marble, while a towering glass structure allows solar light to illuminate the collections. The spaces are anchored by black basalt, a dark fine-grained volcanic rock which recalls Dolce’s hometown in Sicily. Remarkably both materials were shipped 15,000 kilometres from Italy.

Italian baroque furniture purposefully punctures the space throughout—see four ochre curvilinear velvet lounges on the ground floor—while an exclusive mezzazine level offers the va-va-voom pieces in all their gothic sensuality—see Elle Ferguson’s picks from the first floor of the boutique below. (Yes, she’s wearing the KIM necklace!)

It is all the latest creative collaboration between Dolce, Gabbana and Eric Carlson’s award-winning Parisian architecture studio Carbondale.

The boutique offers the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, a space so beautiful you really do need to see it twice (and try on a crown) to experience it once.
