Netflix nowadays is a never-ending plethora of content. The good and the bad. The streaming giant is known to boast some diamonds however and upon first look at the forthcoming film Do Revenge directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, this could be one of them. And a fashion-fuelled movie at that.
Starring Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke, the dynamic on-screen duo will portray two unlikely Miami-based high schoolers. Make no mistake however, this is no teen romance movie and instead has been described as a “dark comedy”. Mendes plays school queen Drea as her boyfriend Max releases her sex tape. At the same time, Hawke fronts as a transfer student name Eleanor and after a rumour is spread about her sexuality, the two girls become unlikely friends in their bid for vengeance.
In an interview with Elle, Robinson elaborated, “I think there are different points where everyone’s the villain and everyone’s the hero in this story. And that is so much of what growing up is. I wanted to make something that paints with all the colours of adolescence.”
The film also features Euphoria star Austin Abrams, Sophie Turner, Rish Shah, Jonathan Daviss, Alisha Boe, Cassady McClincy, Paris Berelc, Talia Ryder and Eliza Bennett.
Aside from a star-studded cast, it also promises to have the same level of aspirational makeup and style as the likes of Gossip Girl and Euphoria. Costume designer Alana Morshead and production designer Hillary Gurtler were tasked with creating a “girl world” that combined cues from the ’90s and 2000s, with “extremely unique pieces so that we could create a look that both feels nostalgic, but also doesn’t exist,” Robinson told the publication.
Do Revenge will be Robinson’s sophomore feature film after she released Someone Great in 2019. We were obsessed so we’re expecting big things.
Stay tuned for a trailer. The film is slated to release from September 16, 2022.
