The most beautiful things are often also the most simple, as is the case with Dior’s latest fragrance, J’adore Parfum d’eau. Made from flowers and water – nothing else – the fragrance implores its wearer to push boundaries, dream big, and embrace the unexpected.

J’adore Parfum d’eau is reinventing perfume as we know it. While formulating the scent, The House of Dior worked to create an alcohol-free fragrance that relies on water as its base. The resulting scent remains just as concentrated as perfumes of the past, including the original J’adore eau de parfum.

Much like the beloved J’adore eau de parfum, Dior’s latest features delicate accents of jasmine, rose, and fresh honeysuckle, which wrap themselves around the sweet white floral of Chinese magnolia. But in J’adore Parfum, a new addition sits alongside these previously adored notes: neroli.

Neroli is an incredibly special addition to the fragrance, derived from the flowers of the bitter orange tree. For this fragrance, Dior has opted for a neroli that can’t be replicated, or found, anywhere else in the world.

The neroli, which shines at the heart of J’adore Parfum d’eau, is sourced as part of an exclusive partnership with Florapolis, a Provençal domain held by Christelle Archer. Thanks to Dior, Archer was able to replant her entire bitter orange plot, after it sat abandoned for 25 years.

The bitter orange flowers are picked by hand from trees which detest the wind, so can only be grown on small, sloping spots known by the French as les restanques. These rare flowers, along with the others used to make the fragrance, rely on a patented Dior innovation that has enabled the creation of a water-based perfume. When worn, the skin is able to recognise the water within the fragrance, resulting in a delicate scent that lasts long after it is sprayed.

If you’re imaging the process that brings this new fragrance to life would be a delight not just for the nose, but also the eyes and ears, you’d be correct. To celebrate the launch, Dior have released a campaign video for lovers of ASMR, depicting how J’adore Parfum d’eau is made.
