White Light. All The Beauty Details From Dior’s Haute Couture Show
At the spring summer '22 haute couture collection, there was one bold makeup detail in particular: white liner
Overnight, the house of Dior showed its spring summer ’22 haute couture show in Paris. The collection — characterised by an almost exclusively monochrome colour palette — placed extreme importance on the art of embroidery and how it gives clothing its architecture, so it’s unsurprisingly the beauty look possessed a similar strength.
Directed by Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director or Christian Dior Makeup, the makeup look was almost completely bare with the exception of a graphic white reverse cat eye. The liner was painted across both the water line (a tricky task) and lower lash line, moving from the inner corner outwards. Philips reportedly used the Diorshow Khôl pencil in 009 White Khôl in conjunction with Diorshow On Stage Liner in 001 Matte White to create a strong, opaque line. He also skipped the mascara, giving it an editorial feeling — but for those playing along at home, an inky black lash may help it translate.
Beyond the white liner, the remaining look was extremely fresh and natural: skin was raw (albeit slightly mattified), lips were cared-for with balm while brows were groomed but fluffy.
Hair was effortless, chic and undone — as well as aligned with each individual model’s natural texture. Whether worn loose or scraped back into a half-looped bun, the finish was shiny and expensive but never contrived (think rich girl have but taken down a few notches).
Overall, the look felt distinctly Dior — Philips is known for his liner handiwork, especially during couture week. But it was also somewhat clean and refined, much like the collection itself.
