For the past nine months, having any kind of social life has been near impossible, with lockdowns lifting, then quickly being reinforced all over the world as the global pandemic continues. The same seems to be true for 2021, leaving us to wonder whether we’ll ever get dressed properly again.

Celebrities are feeling it, too. Instead of hitting the red carpet for events or travelling the world for press tours, they – just like us – are doing everything digitally. For the start of her Our Friend press tour, naturally via Zoom from her house, Dakota Johnson dressed for the occasion, wearing a chic robe by Antwerp-based fashion brand BERNADETTE. Granted, an outfit definitely more elevated than our go-to grey sweatpants, but still something you could very happily lounge around the house in all day.

But when she realised that for her next interview, she could leave her LA home and do it in person, Johnson took full advantage of the opportunity, pulling out all the stops in an incredible ‘60s-style orange Gucci gown.

The dress, from Gucci’s pre-fall 2021 collection, features sequins, floral embellishments down the front and aquamarine ruffles at the cuffs. Johnson, styled by Kate Young, paired the look with gold Crawford knotted sandals and wore her long brunette hair half up, half down.

When James Corden, the host of The Late Late Show, complimented Johnson on her show-stopping look, she replied, “Thanks, I got really excited to leave my house. So I just brought out the big guns.’”

In tribute to Johnson’s “Excited to Leave the House” dress, below, the dresses we are most desperate to wear somewhere – anywhere! – other than in our bedroom.
