For Chloë Sevigny, parenthood isn’t all strolling down the streets of New York City with a Fendi stroller in babydoll dresses and Margiela Tabi pumps. Especially as a working mother, the actress admits that she struggles with leaving her three-year-old son, Vanja, when she needs to be on set.
“The hardest part [of motherhood] is being away and not feeling guilty,” the actress told Page Six at the Feud: Capote vs. The Swans premiere.
“I’m trying to work through that,” she added, “and irrational fears [are] the worst… Micro-stresses—the worst!”
But despite the drawbacks of juggling family and working life, the Oscar nominee affirmed that every day with her son is “a joy.”
Back in 2022, during an interview with The Independent, Sevigny confessed to the pros and cons of her work schedule.
“I could cry just thinking about the fact that I’m a damn actress, and my career has to pay our mortgage,” she said, acknowledging that, for the most part, acting allows her certain privileges. “I mean, I can’t complain. I’m very privileged, but there is something enviable about the nine-to-fivers when you have a kid,” she continued.
“I’m trying to navigate the mum guilt, but it’s pretty daunting.”
Sevigny, 49, welcomed son Vanja with her husband, Sinisa Mackovic, in May 2020, during the pandemic.
“Welcome to the world,” she captioned a snap of her new family cuddled up together.
“Thank you to all the staff at Mt. Sinai East for your bravery, perseverance and kindness, especially the nurses for being so gentle and patient,” she wrote. “Blessings to all the other families giving birth during this time.”
Just before giving birth, Sevigny secretly married her art gallery owner husband at a New York City courthouse. Though fans loved her nonchalant approach to nuptials, the couple held a more ceremonious wedding two years later when they could properly celebrate with friends and family.
