It seems our suspicions were correct. Last month Cher sparked romance rumours with Alexander “AE” Edwards after they were photographed holding hands outside a restaurant in Los Angeles. Now in a candid interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show she has not only addressed the 42-year-age gap but gushed about her new man in the process.

“On paper it’s kind of ridiculous, but in real life we get along great,” Cher explained of the new relationship. “He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve. He’s very kind. He’s very smart. He’s very talented, and he’s really funny. And I think he’s quite handsome.”

The “Believe” singer went on to discuss how difficult it was to date men a similar age, telling Clarkson older men aren’t interested. “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would have never had a date because older men just didn’t like me all that much,” she added. “I have had a couple of boyfriends that were hovering around my age, but they just didn’t like me for some reason. Maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous or want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody.”

Edwards is a musician and VP at the record label Def Jam. He was previously linked to Amber Rose who he co-parents three-year-old-son, Slash. The new couple met recently at Paris Fashion Week where the singer walked the runway for Balmain.

The new romance was quickly criticised on Twitter with Cher forced to defend herself on Twitter. “LOVE DOESN’T KNOW MATH, IT SEES ❤️ ❤️,” Cher wrote on the app in a since-deleted tweet.

One fan expressed their concern for Edward’s “intentions” with Cher swiftly responding that she “wasn’t born yesterday” and most importantly doesn’t “GIVE A✈️FK WHAT ANYONE THINKS.”

One more time for the people in the back.
