Already a symbol of timeless style, the J12 then gave way to the J12 Caliber 12.1 watch, which was embellished for the first time with 18K yellow gold as the ultimate expression of the style. Then came the revolutionary J12 Caliber 12.2. Designed by Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the CHANEL Watchmaking Creation Studio, and crafted by Swiss experts at Kenissi Manufacture, the J12 Caliber 12.2 is the first timepiece of its kind from Chanel to feature a self-winding movement, instantly becoming a landmark in the Maison’s storied watchmaking journey, namely for its host of cutting-edge features.
A feat of precision where each component is thoughtfully reinvented to achieve peak performance, the Caliber 12.2 movement is nothing short of an engineering marvel. With a COSC-certified chronometer and a 50-hour power reserve, this innovation offers far more than a pretty dial. But thanks to the sapphire crystal caseback, the intricate workings of the watch do make for a striking display, including its oscillating weight, a perfect circle that has become Chanel’s signature.
Chanel’s masterful design and horological excellence reached new heights again in 2024 with the introduction of three new iterations of the J12 Caliber 12.2. Each version exudes glamour, adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds across the dial and bezel. From the lacquered dial to the mother-of-pearl finish, Chanel offers variations in its signature black or white ceramic. Even with its 46 brilliant-cut diamonds on a steel bezel and 12 diamonds set against the dial, the J12 Caliber 12.2 imparts a sense of understated luxury.
Meanwhile, the J12 Caliber 12.1 continues to deliver its own bold statement with a dazzling introduction of 18K yellow gold. Plated in gold and visible through the caseback, this icon of watch design serves as a true embodiment of Chanel’s dynamic savoir-faire. Paired with a 70-hour power reserve and 200m water resistance, the 38MM Caliber 12.1 is as technically impressive as it is captivating to the eye.
