I could count on two hands the number of times I have been truly wowed by a foundation — or any coverage product, for that matter. It has to hit so many markers to be perfect: just enough coverage to even out my skin tone but not so much that it creases, no oxidation, a health finish, minimal transfer… I could go on.

Chanel has always been a category leader when it comes to complexion products — the Les Beige Water Fresh Tint is hands down the best lightweight tint I’ve ever used. So when the new Ultra Le Teint Fluide launched, I was excited to give it a go. Described as a “comforting, luminous matte” foundation, Ultra Le Teint Fluide has all the coverage of a proper foundation, but without any of the heaviness. It utilises a film-like technology to resist sweat and humidity, and has a soft powdery finish that prevents all shine. But remarkably it’s not at all drying, thanks to the inclusion of vegetable-derived glycerin that works to retain moisture within the skin. Ultra Le Teint Fluid also comes in 35 shades across three different undertones: neutral, golden and rosy.

Admittedly, I do not normally gravitate towards products described as matte, but Chanel’s take stands in a league of its own. I found the finish really natural and skin-like — not flat but also not overly shiny or glossy. It felt clean, velvety and polished, the perfect product to call on when all-day wear is paramount.

And speaking of wear, Le Teint Fluid lasts incredibly well. I wore it for a day of marathon zoom calls (where I admittedly touched my face too much) and come dinner time it was still fresh and even. Coverage-wise, it managed to even out my pigmented skin tone and soften a few blemishes without concealing my skin’s actual texture. It didn’t crease, crack or grab ahold of dry patches, instead just remained in-tact, as if it had just been applied. It’s the type of product where your complexion looks believable — not hyper-glossy or made-up. If you’re looking for a your-skin-but-better foundation product, the Chanel Ultra Le Teint Fluide comes highly recommended by me.
