Ariana Grande shocked fans when it was confirmed that she had married Dalton Gomez in an intimate ceremony. The pair, who have been dating for 15 months, wed at Grande’s home in Montecito, which was purchased in late June.

According to Ariana’s rep, “It was tiny and intimate—less than 20 people. The room was so happy and full of love. The couple and both families couldn’t be happier.”

But Grande isn’t the first celeb to quietly marry their loved one; here are ten others who have also surprised fans by tying the knot.

Jonathan Van Ness and Mark London

Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness surprised fans when he gave a recap of his 2020, and shared that he “got married to my best friend” Mark London and was grateful to “have a loving partner to continue building my life with.”

The pair met in the UK in 2019 and had been quietly dating until they chose to marry during the pandemic. In May, the happy couple announced Mark had begun the process of applying for a Green Card so they could be together forever.

Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts

In August 2020, Niecy Nash gave fans a major shock when she revealed she had secretly married singer Jessica Betts.

“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” the Claws actress captioned an Instagram post of the loved up couple on their big day, adding: “#LoveWins.”

Niecy was previously married to Don Nash for 13 years, and welcomed three children. They split in 2007 and she married Jay Tucker in 2010, before their divorce was finalised in March 2020.

“I was not suppressing my sexuality my whole life,” Niecy later said to those who questioned the marriage. “I love who I love. At one point in my life, I married twice and I love those people. And today I love this person. I’ve done everything I wanted to do on my own terms and my own way. So my choice now in a partner has nothing to do with who I’ve always been. It’s a matter of who I am in this moment.”

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander

The OG of surprise weddings, Britney Spears shocked the world when she announced in 2004 at the age of 22 she had married childhood friend Jason Alexander in a quickie ceremony in Vegas. The pair had enjoyed a New Year’s Eve celebration in Sin City, and decided that a middle-of-the-night Vegas marriage was for them.

“It was just so crazy, man,” Alexander later said. “We were just looking at each other and said, ‘Let’s do something wild, crazy. Let’s go get married, just for the hell of it.'”

It wasn’t to last though, and the pair annulled the marriage 55 hours later.

Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas

This Is Us star Justin Hartley surprised fans when he was pictured at the 2021 MTV Movie and TV Awards wearing a gold band on his ring finger.

Had he? Yes, he had.

Sources close to the star revealed he had “recently” married Sofia Pernas, 31, whom he had been dating for over a year. The two met in 2015 when they worked together on The Young and the Restless but reunited in 2020, after his contentious divorce from Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas

The pair had planned an elegant French wedding for hundreds of family and friends in 2019 – and then decided to skip the overblown celebrations and get wed in Vegas.

The shotgun wedding took place after the 2019 Billboard Awards and was live streamed by DJ Diplo.

A very 21st century wedding.

“It would have been better if no one had known, but I actually think it was funny,” Sophie later shared of the event, which was so last-minute even Joe’s parents didn’t know it was happening.

“They have an amazing restaurant in North Carolina. And I think a couple of their staff walked up and were like, ‘Congratulations! I saw!’ And then they had to find out,” he later said. “So I was doing a lot of, like, careful apologising. ‘Hey! You guys want to come out to LA? I got you four spas at the Four Seasons!'”

The pair did go ahead with the French event as well though, hosting friends and family at Château de Tourreau, an 18th-century private estate turned five-star property in the Provence region.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Even to this day, little is known about Lively and Reynold’s South Carolina nuptials which took place in September 2012. The Gossip Girl star wore a Marchesa gown and reportedly there was an impromptu performance by Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine.

But one thing we do know? The pair now believe having the wedding at a plantation was a “giant f**king mistake.”

“It’s something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for,” Reynolds said in 2020. “It’s impossible to reconcile. What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest. What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy.
