Scenes from the second season of Sex And The City’s reboot series And Just Like That have been teasing the return of Carrie Bradshaw’s beloved former boyfriend Aiden Shaw for a few weeks now. The exes, played by Sarah Jessica Parker and John Corbett, have been spotted hanging out, holding hands, laughing, crossing the road, the list goes on.

But just as the SATC-obsessed cohort collectively wrap up their busy weeks, an electric jolt: Carrie and Aiden have been seen kissing on her West Village stoop. And not just any kiss, but it looks like “real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.” (For the uninitiated, that is a Carrie quote from way back.)

Netizens have a lot to say about Carrie’s new narrative – and no doubt the comment sections of Sarah Jessica Parker’s latest post will be running hot through til Sunday evening. “This. Is. Not. A Drill,” the 57-year-old actress captioned a photo of her and Corbett kissing (in character).

Reactions are already wild. “NOOO WAAAAYYYY”, posted actress Gwyneth Paltrow. “I’m freaking” posted television host Andy Cohen. “WHOA” posted writer Cleo Wade. “Well I guess we don’t need to watch the show now,” posted comedian Celeste Barber.

I have admittedly felt disconnected from almost every scene in every episode of this chaotic reboot – why, at 55, are characters deaf, getting hip replacements, uneducated about race and gender, or technologically challenged? But something about this finale made me tear up. Watching Carrie, dressed in Valentino, muster up the tired courage to scatter the remains of her beloved husband, Big, on a bridge in Paris was… beautiful. For the first time, I felt her heartache, her braveness to do it alone, and her known need for closure. I also felt hopeful for a second season.

I’m glad Aiden’s back. I just hope Carrie treats him better this time.
