Boxy, oversized and a little bulky (but good bulky) is our current blazer order. Much like “boyfriend jeans” captured the fashion Zeitgeist back in the early ‘aughts, we’re now taking our blazers in boyish form, opting for oversized, mannish cuts. Some quite literally borrow from the boys (including GRAZIA’s Beauty Editor Emily Algar who has been known to pilfer partner Andrew’s wardrobe from time to time). But for those of us in vertically challenged relationships (AKA me at 5″4 – and my partner at 6″4), “borrowing from the boys”, so to speak, is not an option. Thankfully, brands have clued in to the desires of us shorter folk, creating purposefully inflated jackets which remain nicely tailored at the wrist (and not like the arms of the Wacky Waving Inflatable Man).

Frankie Shop’s Oversized Boyfriend Blazer

At 1.75 cm, we’d assume Kaia Gerber to not have this problem, freely borrowing from new boyfriend Pete Davidson’s wardrobe. But alas, with Davidson not really being the suit-and-tie-kind-of-guy (although he did scrub up quite nicely to attend a wedding with Gerber over the weekend), she too has chosen a deliberately oversized blazer to accompany her jeans and crop (and Medea tote, which we’re also quietly eyeing off).

Yesterday, Kaia Gerber posted a photo to Instagram wearing Jacquemus’s Moyo Single-Breasted Twill Blazer in washed grey, simply entitled, “Sports”. While the outfit doesn’t quite suggest a stint on the athletics track, it does make a cool proposition for oversized blazers in the everyday wardrobe, proving the eternal wearability of tailoring. The mannish blazer, which featured in Jacquemus’s AW19 runway, was in fact inspired by the designer’s penchant for ’50s and ’60s French cinema, namely Mon Oncle and Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, riffing on the soigné mens suiting in the films.

With its big, breezy silhouette and dropped shoulder, the Blazer is the perfect example of sizeable suiting in any fashion circumstance. And the best part? It’s currently on sale at Matches Fashion. But in case this particular style doesn’t whet your blazer appetite, consider the following editor-approved blazers which are both boxy and brilliant – and will keep those lovers’ tiffs at bay.
