Blake Lively has shared images from the set of her upcoming sequel to the stylish crime thriller, A Simple Favour. Rather than shooting on a Hollywood studio backlot, the adventures of her martini-drinking and über-stylish housewife-on-the-run character have taken the actress to the island of Capri in Italy, the upcoming release also offering a glimpse into Lively’s Italian holiday wardrobe.

While the balmy temperatures of a European summer might have you thinking the mother-of-four would lean into the ‘la dolce vita’ essence of the tomato girl aesthetic, Lively seemed to instead take cues from Valentino creative director Alessandro Michele’s maximalist design ethos

A lesson in contrasts, the actor was spotted in an ensemble we’d likely see a chic Nonna wear to a long lunch at her local trattoria. The outfit consisted of a vintage Chanel jacket in yellow tweed, the French Maison’s raffia flap bag, a Breton-striped cardigan emblazoned with sun-shaped brooches, ripped and patchwork denim embroidered with floral motifs, and leopard print loafers from Christian Louboutin. (Of course, if the coastal grandmother trend is any indication, fashion is shifting focus from girlhood to the later stages of womanhood and the eclectic energy stylish seniors embody.)

“My Capri fashion got real specific and fab,” Lively quipped in an Instagram Story.

On another occasion, Lively wore a similar silhouette, instead pairing her coat with classic blue jeans folded at the hem, a brown sweatshirt accented with a screen-printed pink flower, white Chanel loafers and a rainbow crochet purse.

It’s not apparent if these looks are courtesy of the costume department or her own resort pieces. Nevertheless, Lively’s time in Italy certainly proves her allegiance to a vein of eccentricity and a romanticism not allowed in the reign of quiet luxury. If her past press tour looks are anything to go by (remember the fresh-from-the-runway Chanel suit and laser-cut hibiscus Valentino jeans worth AU$28,000?), it’s commonplace to assume we’ll ever see Lively in something decidedly minimal.
