In welcome news, Beyoncé has announced she will be releasing a brand new visual album called Black Is King on July 31.

The album is reportedly set to stream on Disney Plus, and will be based on songs from The Lion King 2019 animated remake where Beyoncé voiced the role of Nala. As per the announcement, the work will feature Jay-Z, daughter Blue Ivy Carter, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Pharrell as collaborators and pay tribute to the black experience.

Black Is King pays tribute to voyages of Black families throughout time,” the statement explains. “The visual album tells the story of a young king’s ‘transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity.’ His ancestors help guide him toward his destiny, and with his father’s teachings and guidance from his childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne.”

The album will be written, produced and directed by Beyoncé (because, who else) will likely follow the creative direction of 2016’s Lemonade and the 2013 Beyoncé. As of yesterday, a one-minute teaser became available on her website too, and if it’s anything to go by, the album itself will be incredible.
