Nail inspiration is in no short supply on Instagram (we currently can’t stop swooning over this perfect pierced example) but the latest take on the cat eye manicure from the ever-talented nail artist Betina Goldstein is one we can’t stop staring at.

The cat eye manicure uses a magnetic gel polish to create a unique, other-worldly metallic finish (like staring into the eyes of a feline). Most magnetic polishes contain iron particles that, when a magnet is held over, swirl around, resulting in a 3-dimensional design that’s marbled, striking, and kind of hypnotic.

Goldstein’s take is a Champagne-hued, short style using BrillBird UK’s Cat Eye gel (sadly not available in Australia). The finish is opaque and high shine – almost as if it were velvet. It also changes form as the light hits; from one angle it looks golden, and another an icy shade of chrome. Goldstein’s opted for a short square nail bed base (which keeps it chic) and used her very own Double Moss Arte brushes to ensure not a fleck of shimmer is out of place. In a word, perfection.

If you want to emulate ask your manicurist to use a similar magnetic polish. Or, you can DIY – we love the range of shades available via NSI Nails Australia.

And if you’re into high-shine metallic manis that are still understated and cool, there’s a plethora of inspiration-worthy looks available on Goldstein’s Instagram. From all-over silver sparkle sparkling rosé to ethereal ‘moon light’ sheen, keep scrolling for a few of our favourites.
