Call it skinimalism, laziness or just a thirst for innovation, but these days we’re demanding newer, cleaner beauty products that blur the line between certain categories. Take skincare and makeup — why would we want makeup that’s not great for skin, or skincare that doesn’t improve on glow/clarity/instant luminosity?

And that brings us to now, where finally brands are serving up products that care for our complexions on a holistic level while simultaneously making them look better instantly. From tinted serums to illuminating eye balms, here’s our pick of the best and brightest new launches.

Rose Inc Skin Enhance Luminous Tinted Serum, $49. SHOP NOW

Just in from Rose Inc — the brand from Rosie Huntington-Whitley and Biossance parent company Amyris — is this Luminous Tinted Skin Serum. The formula uses pigment spheres suspended in a serum-like base of hyaluronic acid, squalane and peptides to nourish and plump the skin while simultaneously providing lightweight coverage. And like the rest of the Rose Inc line, it’s non-comedogenic, or formulated to Rosie’s very own non-pore clogging standards. Think of this as the perfect everyday base that won’t congest or irritate the skin (in fact, quite the opposite).

Chanel Hydrating Beautifying Tinted Lip Balm, $57. SHOP NOW

Unlike a standard lip balm, this new oil-rich formula from Chanel has incredible nourishing properties but a soft, healthy-looking finish that mattifies with wear. The Dreamy White shade in particular is the perfect every day product that doesn’t any colour, but still makes the lips look infinitely better. The inclusion of omegas and polyphenols will help to preserve a soft, youthful pout, as well.

Mecca Cosmetica Weekend glow serum, $37. shop now

Mecca Cosmetica’s signature line is all about healthy, luminous skin, but this new ‘Glow Serum’ is less of a skincare product, and more of a primer/face gloss that gives the skin a glistening finish — as if you’ve just experienced a really good facial. While there’s no tint or shimmer, the presence of squalane, jojoba and vitamin E provide long-lasting hydration. Use it on top of your sunscreen for a dewy look, or add a pump to oil-based foundation.

Drunk Elephanto-bloos rosi drops, $51. SHOP NOW

Kind of a liquid blusher but not really, this rosy liquid from Drunk Elephant not only adds life to the cheeks, but cares for the skin thanks to fatty acids, omegas and antioxidants. Either use it as a dedicated blush, or add a drop into your moisturiser or skin tint for a ‘just-did-Pilates’ type of glow.

TULA Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm, $43. SHOP NOW

Rich in probiotics, caffeine, rosewater and aloe vera, this balm functions as both an under-eye hydrator and a dewy highlighter. The product itself has a subtle pinkish shimmer, so it does an excellent job at illuminating tired, dull or lacklustre skin. Use it to de-puff the eye area or all over for added luminosity.

Youthforia Pregame Primer, $38. SHOP NOW

While technically a primer, Youthforia’s Pregame formula boasts a silky soft texture that smooths and evens out the skin. There’s botanicals, a plant-based silicone alternative and a ‘patented complex’ that supposedly reduces the histamine response in the skin, calming redness and signs of irritation. If the impressive (but believable!) before and afters on the website are anything to go by, this makeup skincare hybrid would work brilliantly underneath makeup, or simply on its own.
